ECONOMICAL - STEPS FROM THE BEACH - ABOUT HALF THE PRICE OF MANY INDIAN ROCKS BEACH RESORTS.
These are the memories from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's in your own private cottage with porch, full kitchen, living room, bath and 1 or 2 bedrooms.
Save money and have a relaxing vacation in a private 1 or 2 bedroom cottage. Uncle Milt's is an inexpensive resort with 14 separate cottages, each with their own full kitchen that lets you enjoy your own home cooking when you don't want to eat in a restaurant.
There is now a paved, two lane road between Uncle Milt's and the ocean so you can drive right up to the side of your cottage and park. The beach access is right across the road from Uncle Milt's, so if you don't mind walking an extra 50 feet to the beach you will save about half the price of the other resorts.
Uncle Milts is also one of the few resorts where you have grass. We have a grass covered courtyard where you can barbeque and converse with the neighbors, or sit on your own front porch and laze the day away.
About Indian Rocks Beach
Indian Rocks Beach is known as “The world’s safest beach”.
Indian Rocks Beach reputedly got its name from the pilgrimage of Indians who came to the area to bathe and drink the healing waters from the springs. These same artesian wells still run under the ground of Uncle Milt’s Cottages.
Legend has it that the land is protected by Indian spirits and that is why the beach is known as the world’s safest beach.
Here at Indian Rocks Beach you can laze the days away on miles of pristine beach or make use of the numerous parks and recreational facilities. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, a leash-free dog park, a ball field and a state of the art skateboard park. There are numerous family-oriented events and festivals throughout the year, such as the Fall Arts Festival and “Beauty & the Beach”.
In this quaint seaside resort community of less than 5,000 permanent residents, you will find dozens of shops, restaurants and fun things to see and do. It is a resort town where family fun mingles with the mellow leisure of a peaceful sea side vacation that soothes your senses.
Disney World is less than a two-hour drive and Clearwater, Tampa and St. Petersburg are even closer should you want to visit one of Florida’s larger cities for a day trip while staying at an inexpensive beach home-away-from-home.
The Story of Uncle Milt’s Cottages
These lovely, quaint cottages complete with their old-fashioned porches may seem to be from another era; that is because they are. The 14 cottages that comprise Uncle Milt's date back to pre-WW I, ca. 1910. Originally built at MacDill Air force Base as officer’s quarters the cottages remained on this military base through the 2nd World War and were eventually brought down to Indian Rocks Beach by barge around 1945 where it became one of the first resorts on the beach and today remains one of the few original resorts that started the Gulf Beach trend.
During the 1950s Arthur Godfrey broadcast his radio show from Uncle Milt’s and many big band era personalities such as the Andrews Sisters would stay at the cottages. Many years later a two lane road was built between Uncle Milt’s and the beach. These days you still can view the ocean from the private porch of several of the cottages while having the security of your children not having immediate access to the water.
These cozy, yet spacious cottages each have 1 or 2 bedrooms, living room, bath and full kitchen stocked with utensils, pots, pans and dishes. They also come with linens and towels and there is on-site laundry. Park your car along side of your own cottage. By taking that 30 second walk to the beach you can save a lot of money to spend on things other than your accommodations. And for those couples that have dreamed about having a beach wedding, what could be better than having your wedding party and friends all staying in their own cottages, next to each other? This is an affordable reality at Uncle Milt’s Cottages.
